Plain coconut oil is cheaper and has better evidence behind it for one specific job — reducing hair breakage. A traditional blend like Lookman-e-Hayat is bought for massage: it is formulated to spread and absorb the way a maalish oil needs to. For many people, plain coconut oil is genuinely the sensible choice.

When plain coconut oil is the better buy
- You mainly want it for hair. Coconut oil has the strongest evidence of any oil for reducing breakage, and it costs a fraction as much. We would rather say this than sell you something you do not need.
- You have sensitive skin and want the shortest possible ingredient list.
- You are on a tight budget. A bottle of coconut oil used consistently beats an expensive oil used twice.
- You want something you can also cook with.
When a traditional blend earns its price
- You want it for massage. Coconut oil absorbs fast and goes solid in winter — both bad for a ten-minute maalish. A blend is made to stay slippery long enough to actually massage with.
- You want the traditional preparation specifically, because it is what your family has used and you know how it feels and smells.
- Winter. A blend stays liquid; a jar of coconut oil in Karachi in January does not.
What neither one does
Neither treats, cures or prevents any condition. Neither regrows hair on a bald patch or reverses baldness. Neither is a substitute for seeing a doctor about pain that will not settle or hair that is falling out in handfuls.
They are comfort and cosmetic products. Judged as that, both are good; judged as medicine, both fail, and so does everything else on the shelf.
Our recommendation, plainly
If you want an oil for hair, buy coconut oil — or a coconut-led blend if you want the convenience. Glow Halal Hair Oil is ours (Rs 1,200 / 100 ml, contains almond — a tree nut).
If you want an oil for massage, a traditional blend is worth the difference. Lookman-e-Hayat is Rs 1,200 for 50 ml and Rs 2,200 for 100 ml, with the full ingredient list published on the page. Cash on Delivery across Pakistan.
We sell both, so take that recommendation with the appropriate pinch of salt — but the coconut-oil point is true whether you buy from us or not.
FAQ
Can I mix them?
Yes. Many people use coconut oil for hair and a blend for massage. There is no reason to pick one for everything.
Is a more expensive oil a better oil?
No. Price tracks ingredients, packaging and marketing — not effect. Check the ingredient list.
Which lasts longer?
Per millilitre, coconut oil, because you can buy it in much larger bottles. Per application, they are similar.
